Abstract

The article deals with two translations of Obama’s speech, done by V. Kovalenko and Ju. Yalova, and with the results of comparative analyses of the ways of translating phraseological units in political discourse.
B. Obama in his political speeches uses mostly idioms, phraseological fusions and phraseological unities with positive or negative emotional and evaluative component, which creates images in listener’s consciousness. Just the usage of phraseological units makes his speeches expressive and convincing.
Both translators use different ways of translating and that makes their translating either more emotionally saturated or leads to the neutralization of phraseological units meaning.
