MYCHAYLO STARYTSKY’S PLAY “TALAN”: THE METADRAMATIC ANALYSIS

Abstract

The article analyzes the play of M. Staritskyi in light of the concept of metadrama. It is proved that the drama of Ukrainian classic writer contains embodiment of metadramatic poetics which is implemented by ironic discourse. The techniques 'play in the play', literature and real-life references, self-references, metadramatic character, theatrical topos allow to determine “Talan” as a bright sample of metadrama, which confirms its long tradition in Ukrainian literature.
