SEMANTIC AND CATEGORIC POTENTIAL OF THE LEXEME «ПОКЛИКА́ ННЯ»: LEXICOGRAPHIC, ETHYMOLOGICAL, AND PARADIGMATIC APPROACHES

Abstract

The article presents the research of the semantic and categorical potential of the Ukrainian lexeme «поклика́ння» and clarifies the paradigmatic relationship between words «поклика́ння» («гіперпоклика́ння»), «посилання» («гіперпосилання»), «лінк», and «ланка».

Research methods include: component analysis, definition analysis of dictionary entries of lexicological sources, method of functional analysis, method of quantitative calculations, method of generalization.

Results. In the article it has been proved that the noun «поклика́ння» belongs to the deverbatives which are characterized by the regular polysemy: nomina actionis to denote the objectified process, and nomina acti to denote the result of the process. This deverbative forms two synonymous unions which include words with varying degrees of productive use. We have identified three factors in the formation of synonymous associations: the variable use of the native word and the borrowed one; the tendency to replace the irregular word with the Ukrainian equivalent; the emergence of new concepts, and the desire to give each of them the most accurate nomination concordant with the basic foreign word. It has been found that most lexical competitors to the deverbative «поклика́ння» appeared in the late 2010s. In the research two following tendencies have been detected: the undisputed leader of active use in speech is the irregular word «посилання»; the native word «ланка» naturally begins to compete with the foreign equivalent «лінк». It has been clarified that the lexeme «поклика́ння» is widely used in modern scientific research in various fields, dissertations in philology, and the media. The article reveals a noticeable tendency to active usage of this word on the official Web resources of educational institutions, blogs, social networks pages, etc.

Conclusions. The deverbative «поклика́ння» is a normative word. We propose to include the word into the glossary of modern lexicographical sources, and to record in the macrostructure of the explanatory dictionary of the Ukrainian language three definitions of it: 1. The mentioning of someone or something to confirm. 2. A set of bibliographic information about the document that is necessary and sufficient for identification and retrieval. 3. The address of another network information resource in URL format.
