Abstract
Semiotic modifications of Hryhoriy Skovoroda as well as the routs of symbol loans, the source material contexts, iconic and conventional variants in the texts by the Ukrainian theologian have been studied in the paper. They all are regarded as the elements of emblematic signification, wherein different semiosis traditions have been mingled, and thus suggesting new connotations. Skovoroda finds congenial symbolic signifiers in pagan (pre-Christian) and biblical “shapes”
and “ikons”. He frequently stresses upon the borrowings, sign succession, admitting the existence of “peripatetic” and amid ethnic (a universal symbolic world) forms of experience and meaning organization.
