Abstract

The paper examines metaphorical models of the concept of PAIN in the English discourse of medicine. In the framework of analyzed material, structural (PAIN IS QUANTITY; PAIN IS MOTION; PAIN IS FIRE; PAIN IS A SOUND; PAIN IS A PHYSICAL FORCE); spatial (MORE PAIN IS UP; LESS PAIN IS DOWN) and ontological (PAIN IS AN ENEMY; PAIN IS A WEAPON; PAIN IS AN OBSTINATE PERSON; PAIN IS A BURDEN) conceptual metaphors were distinguished. The ways of their verbal implementation were considered.
