Abstract

The article is dedicated to the research of phraseologisms with culinary component in the modern English language in the frame of cognitive and semantic approaches. The combination of theoretical attainments of cognitive linguistics and semiotic theory led to the creation of cognitive and semantic paradigm. Cognitive linguistics, which has developed greatly over two last decades of the 20th century, proceeds actually with the tradition of classic linguistics to emphasize not a language form and its grammatical meaning but the idea, which can be expressed with the help of different language forms. The aspect reflecting the meaning as a result of self-conciousness, social process of cognition, on the one hand, and communicative activities, on the other hand, is becoming more prominent for us.
