RENDERING WORDPLAY FROM W. SHAKESPEARE’S HISTORICAL CHRONICLE “HENRY IV” IN D. PALAMARCHUK’S AND T. OSMACHKA’S TRANSLATIONS

Abstract

The article outlines the main features of rendering Shakespeare’s wordplay in the Ukrainian translations of the historical chronicle “Henry IV” focusing on its functions, in particular the function of characterizing personages. It analyzes key methods and individual translators’ approaches. The article also covers reception of the play in Ukrainian literature.
