Abstract
The paper deals with the problem of subtext as an artistic principle of Valerii Shevchuk that creates the complete idea of the writer’s poetics. The author analyzes the materials (in particular the autobiographical story and essay “On the Bank of Time” and the literary essay “The Aeneid” by I. Kotliarevskyi in the system of the Ukrainian Baroque»), where the specific of subtext and its meaning as a systematically important factor take place.
