Abstract

The article deals with general features of phraseological units in the fictional work of British writers of postmodern era. The author concludes that general phraseological units are attracted by high emotionality and connotative layering that provides English fictional works of postmodern era with striking features of the national character and unique colouring. The use of phraseological units with great expressive and figurative potential increases the informative volume of
phraseological context. Particular attention is paid to phraseological meaning as a linguistic category. Aspects of phraseological meaning help to explain the semantic structure of general phraseological units.
